North East India being endowed with diversified natural resources and a favorable climate for growth of horticultural foods has always been seen as a potential area that can give ample ground to the food processing sector to flourish and generate adequate output, income and employment. Keeping this in mind, Indian Institute of Food processing Technology - Liaison Office, Guwahati was established on 20th July, 2010 with the objective of developing small-scale entrepreneurship and skilled manpower for the food processing sector in the North East. Presently, the centre provides training, consultancy, business incubation services and student internship programs in the area of food processing to different stakeholders such as farmers, farmers’ group, government institutions/departments, private enterprises, students and other stake holders.
IIFPT also established a Liaison Office in Bathinda (Punjab) on December 2016. The Honorable Minister, MoFPI, Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated the Food processing Business Incubation Centre of Bathinda on 27th February 2018 to transform farmers’ food product concepts and ideas into a successful thriving business and to become a food entrepreneur.
